I have been online dating for a long time and have tried more sites than most because it’s my job to write about these things. But all that registering and searching and messaging has had its benefits. Real live dates. More importantly, in all that dating and reviewing of sites, I have learned which tactics get results.
Dating Tactics?
When I started online dating, I would only use one site at a time. I checked out other sites for work, but I only had one filled-out and functioning profile for personal use. To do otherwise seemed like it would be a waste of time and energy, logging in and out of various sites.
But as time went on, I became intrigued by members at a different sites. I was reviewing and eventually set up camp at those sites too. At my peak, I was juggling nine different sites, but now I keep a maximum of five active profiles. If I want to join a new one, I cancel my membership at one of the others. Wow . . . I do get around!
Why One Is Not Enough
Lots of people in your city use online dating, or at least let’s assume so. Are all of these people using the same dating site? Of course not. By using multiple dating sites, you access more potential partners. You could just join the one you believe has the most members and be done with it, but you’d be selling yourself short. Using multiple sites widens your net to include more variety in interests, age-groups, and ethnicities. You can also access pre-filtered groups such as single parents or pet lovers. Things get pretty specific out there!
More Benefites of Using Multiple Dating Sites
Split Testing! When you create your second profile you’ll probably want to cut and paste most of it from the first. I often do that, but sometimes I run little experiments. By creating different content in the area where you write about yourself, you can test what kinds of things people respond to (always staying truthful of course). If it’s a site for basketball lovers, you’ll want to include details about your relationship to the sport. Try different approaches – tell a story, try funny, or try earnest.
Who’s Gonna Pay for All That?
I certainly don’t pay five monthly subscriptions for dating sites and I wouldn’t expect you to either. My advice? Find the sites that offer free basic memberships such as MatureKiss or BDSMdate. Whatever suits your fancy. Many paid sites still have features that are available to all their members such as free chatrooms at the two mentioned above. Most sites allow you to search your local area for free, so you certainly don’t have to pay if you’re not finding enough options. When you do find a site that has good prospects and features you want, then go ahead and upgrade. Add a free site to the mix such as PlentyOfFish or OKcupid? Remember, more exposure means more action!
