The older I get, the broader my dating type becomes. In fact, I’m not sure I have much of a type at all any more. And it feels great. I’m no longer just clicking on profiles of hipster guys who have artsy jobs or boys in bands. It was so limiting. And I don’t list any specifics in my profile either. I figure there’s no point in turning away someone I haven’t even heard from, or met yet.
If you date outside your type, you may…
Meet someone with potential. Has dating your type been successful? Probably not, if you’re reading this. It’s easy to get stuck in patterns when it comes to dating, and if you’re having trouble finding what you’re looking for, then it’s time to shake things up.
See things differently. Often our types are similar to ourselves because it can be scary looking at life through a new lens. Scary but fascinating. There’s much truth in opposites attract and if you can take the leap, you’ll be surprised by the many viewpoints that others have that you can learn from.
Try new things. Again, our types often have like interests and this can be important, but dating someone who will engage you in new experiences can be thrilling. When’s the last time you tried something for the first time? If you’re an introvert or shy person stuck in your comfort zone, you may benefit from dating a more outgoing person.
Find a Balance. When you date outside your type, you will have a better perspective on what has attracted you to people from your past, and also what wasn’t working. Branching out will allow you to reflect on the characteristics and qualities that helped you grow with your type, and those that held you back.
Keep your mind and heart open to all types, and your dating potential will blossom.
